Apple never was a part of Mhz rat-race. Look at its bestselling Powerbook. How fast was it compared to the then PC laptops. Anyways, WWDC is suppose to be developers conference, so we should speculate more about Leopard and hopefuly MacPros (because they are long due) insted of iPods and MBPs.

It sure was! Anyone remember when the Pismo hit 400MHz, and Intel's best was still at 333MHz (or somethign to that effect)?

I get very worried when I hear El-Jobso talking about post a PC world as if he has decided already that the PC is dead. I for one could not make a living using an iPad and an iPhone.

    .

As they stand currently you couldn't make a living from them.
We aren't talking a short transition period either. I don't think jobs is talking about you when he talks about postpc era either. In many ways apple have always been post pc. They target people who's work is defined by what they produce and have the freedom to choose the tools to get that done. The pc era was defined by the beige box that some nameless corporate type would buy by the truck from Dell to sit on everyone's desk so they can work.

That is the era of computing that is done for. It'll move to out of sight clusters with semi articulate terminals powered by cheap lower power arm processors. People who choose their own tools will more and more buy their own tools like they did pre pc.

just signed up. the whole process is actually really easy. i was up and running within seconds. i've been buying all my music from amazon for years now, and having the convenience of your digital music automatically sync'd up to your personal locker is great. it even scanned my 104GB music collection within 2 mins! pretty cool

this is probably old news but meh, what the hell:

Nobody else seems interested, so they must have already seen it, but I have not. That's pretty interesting.

it's a lower cost model? Customers that want to pay less buy it, it's not that hard to understand and is done in all industries. You have no point.

Wow. I think you missed the point. At 1199, the MacbookPRO should have a discrete option...hell, POS HP's at 600.00 do.

Oh, and please spare me the snarky "well then enjoy your HP! Har har har" comment.

After being reassured by a number of posts here, I downloaded the Sophos software and immediately did a scan of my HD. I was expecting it to find something "serious" that I would have to let Sophos deal with. It did not. Nothing was found; although the scan took about 45 minutes. At one point (near the end), the scan seemed to stop (hang up?) but it restarted OK. Perhaps it was just dealing with a particularly large file.

I, too, am not so concerned about viral problems with my MBP but I do receive and resend files from numerous PCs so I suppose have Sophos software "on the job" might make me more responsible.

I am curious; I seldom find anything is free. How does Sophos recover his investment in this project?

I think apple has even more of a lockdown on iOS 5 and because there are no leaks they are reporting delay.

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

Not as far as 95% of users are concerned. Most users don't utilize half of what the current device can do.

But on a larger issue, exactly which is it? Apple updates too frequently or not frequently enough?
The big anti-Apple talking point since iPad2 has been that all of its features could have been available on iPad 1, but Apple held off in order to make people buy another one (nonsense, btw). So they get slammed either way.

As far as hardware announcements at WWDC, I think it makes sense to de-couple iPhone announcements from that event just as it made sense for Apple to de-couple its major announcements from MacWorld. Having an unrelated event drive announcements locks Apple in unnecessarily.

They'll just have a separate, more appropriate, announcement venue for iPhone 5.

Android has been shown (http://thenextweb.com/google/2011/04/21/its-not-just-the-iphone-android-stores-your-location-data-too/) to also gather location information, but the database is limited to a much smaller list of entries and is regularly wiped by the system. Jobs' email seems to explicitly claim, however, that Google's location information is used to track users while Apple's is not.

Umm, Android's on-phone database might be smaller, but the phone sends all your location data to Google several times an hour tied to a unique identifier, where I'm sure the database is unlimited. And even if you trust Google with that data, they've been hacked before.

The only way anyone gets your iPhone data is if they steal your phone and you don't do a remote wipe in time. Or if they steal your computer and you don't encrypt backups.

Without even getting into new things, they could just do it well. Cell phones have interfaces like goats. Every single one of them.

    So we need cell computers.

Apple had/has its prime time with the ipod, iphone, ipad but now the innovation chip has changed it seems.

This has been my feeling as well. Unless Apple pulls some new magic out of the hat. I love OSX, but I'm not sure how much longer I can stay on board.

Happy it is coming this year, that way the real update, iPhone6 can be released next year.
I'm as pleased as punch with my iPhone4, no need to upgrade until the geniuses at Apple open a book learn about a little thing called 4G speeds.

It would be like Nintendo suing Sharp even though the 3DS screen is supplied by them.

You better believe Nintendo would sue Sharp if Sharp released a 3DS competitor that looked just like a 3DS.

I have extremely slow DSL. There is one ISP in my area so upgrading is not an option (if it was I would have upgraded long ago). A cloud-based OS is horrifying to me. The last thing I want is for my files to transfer back and forth, slowly, to a server somewhere.

Correct. I dragged it into trash. It removed normally. I then went to the applications folder and dragged it back. All worked flawlessly.

I still can't remove Launchpad on mine >.< Did you update via Software Update or reinstall the new build? I updated via Software Update to build 2.

EDIT: I see the aforementioned post now. Thanks!

You need to install an update from Software Update first. Then Restart. Then go to the Dev Center and get a redeem code. Then go to the Mac App Store, redeem a and download.

So no you dont have to do a new install

And yet the entire Android platform generates less revenue in a year than iTunes does in a single quarter.

Thats because Android users want everything for free. Its so easy to "aquire" apps for your Android device. Why pay? If I was a developer I would stay away from the Android Market. The App Store is where the money is at.

MBP Merom anyone? Appleinsider has always been reliable...so this may happen. This WWDC is gonna be great!

This is not a question of Appleinsider being reliable, more a matter of rumor sites making a guess that is absolutely obvious. There is no way that Apple could _not_ use Merom in the future, since Intel will sell it at exactly the same price that it charges for Yonah today.

Nobody uses / when writing down by hand (they do when programming on a computer- fine), or at least they shouldn't.

This wasn't written by hand, it was typed out on a computer. You can save any other arguments you have on the subject, because they don't apply here based on your flawed premise.

    Thanks for the links.

I dont see why a 20% increase in speed is going to rock the boat. Especially if its in the MBP. So if it is ready for shipment I dont see any advantage in waiting for the MBP line to upgrade.

I guess Ill have to do some research about the battery performance.

Noone knows what Steve Jobs will do, but I think he had been roper-doping long enough with the G3 and G4. What 6 years with the same G4? He needs to come out swinging while Apple still has a strong brand name from the iPod.

I hope to see some changes. The last 5 years have been so slow that it hasnt been worth keeping up with.

The web player cannot be played on iOS devices? Really? Is it Flash-based?

Geez, this seems like the Mac vs PC wars all over again. But, I can't blame Amazon for not making a native iOS app. I wouldn't want to blindly give Apple 30% of my profits either.

Last I heard, Apple was going to use non-Apple gear in their NC data center. That was just a rumor of course. But if there really are rackable Mac Pros on the way, I wonder if Apple could use them in NC...

    http://store.shopfujitsu.com/fpc/Ecommerce/buildseriesbean.do?series=ST5100&ptype=TB

I owned one, and they're great tablets. Would love to be off of Windows totally and have a Mac tablet, but there are two important things still holding me on a tablet: handwriting recognition (actually, storing my notes in Ink which is indexed in text) and speech recognition (iListen isn't as good as Dragon Naturally Speaking... even David Pogue who loves Macs has a PC specifically for speech recognition).

Still, if Apple comes out with a tablet, I'd get one.
