A slightly improved version of the iPad 2 could also be released around that time, to be sold alongside the current version. September's Apple event could be a lot more than just new iPods. iPad 2 only just launched yesterday in various other countries. It will most likely sell out there this weekend as well. Most people still have a few weeks to wait for ordered iPad 2's. They can barely meet demand now. App developers have barely even scratched the surface of updating and writing apps to take advantage of all the new goodies in the iPad 2. With the tragedy in Japan, some components are in short supply. iPad 2 has barely gotten out of the gate! With a track record like that for the iPad 2, I just can't see how anyone can believe any type of iPad 3 launch will take place in the Fall. Besides, that's when they launch iPods for Xmas anyway. No retina display. Will be kept at a modest price point - between the regular iPad and Touch prices. Released just in time for the holiday shopping season: An iPad that's cheaper than a regular iPad and can fit in a purse. A great present for the wife. It'll be THE stocking stuffer of the year. This iPad mini could be what the "new iPad in September" rumors are really about. Just don't call it an iPad 3 or Mr. jobs will get mad. It's the "Big Touch," yo.

Nothing is stopping RIM from paying MORE than Apple to secure supply for their product.
Its simple supply and demand.
There is a limited supply and massive demand.

Not quite but close. You almost repeated what I wrote. Any company can pay more for the piece parts but then you price yourself out of the market. Look at how well that served the Xoom.
But what I am saying is this is not a monopoly power in play but a monopsony. They are really different dynamics in how they are controlled and play out.

iChat is definitely going to be hugely important for Apple but so is letting all these features work seamlessly together with Windows users. The few options Apple has in this regard is making the iPhone Mac only or with Windows compatible apps or just bring osX to PC and be done with it.
If we look at all the devices we want from Apple, they all need tight integration with the OS. An Apple branded iPod, iPhone, iTV, iSmart, iCamera, etc.. will be on the market sooner or later, so Apple will make and support countless Windows Apps or be osX only. I strongly believe that opening up osX will be easier to do and has a higher long term potential.
Agreed. Another way for Apple to proceed here is to make the phone compatible with Outlook/iTunes on windows etc etc so that it's still perfectly usable but the experience is just that much better on OSX. This will lead people into buying Macs which is always Apples aim.
I don't see OSX on generic PC hardware any time soon. Even though I would love to see that happen in many ways.

Well it's not unprecedented. The iPad 2 shipped with iOS 4.3, which added support for the device and its new features, but not much else.
And the original iPad came with 3.2.
Seems to be that the iPad gets the older OS but newer processors.

Why would you feel a need to get a new cellphone every single year? Contracts tend to run 2 years, discouraging you from upgrading that often anyway. But regardless, all of the recent "smartphones" I've seen are built well enough so they'll easily hold up for a good 2 years of use. All of the things I'd really need to do on a mobile phone will work fine next year, just the way they work this year.

TBH, probably wasn't the AV.. when you dual boot there are so many bugs that go on w/ OSX. I never dual boot anymore because it would always lock my Mac up..
I saw a lady today at the Apple Store, and goes to the Genius Bar.. and the first thing she says "Hi, I am having troubles with my iMac, I dual booted through Boot Camp w/ Windows 7, and it crashed my Mac." I LOL'd and the genius's confirmed it was the cause of dual boot. I don't trust it... not one bit.

Well, I just bought it because I need to sync my computers. However, I do not believe Apple would do this for free :rolleyes: At $99/yr list price it is a lot but I wouldn't mind paying $25/year. Better yet, Apple should include it as a free service for those with Apple Care to leverage people into buying the extended service, For others, charge $25 - $50/year. Heck, we pay a premium for Apple products, they should throw us a bone every now and then.

My thoughts exactly. Our school district (ISD 482) just bought 1,465 iPads for its students, and I can see us getting really mad if Apple were to release a new iPad 6 mos. later.
